Rhymes

I do not know about you but I spend a ton of time in the car. I often feel like I should have a bed set up so we can just sleep there. I hate that time but I do love it too because Syd and I get to talk a lot. We talk about how cars are "smiling" or "frowning". We talk about different colors we are passing. We talk about our plan for the day and what we are doing next.

My favorite thing in the car, though, is to listen to her talk to herself. If she is content you will hear her go in to amazing songs and rhymes. ONes that absolutely make no sense at all but so sweet to listen to. Today she was singing about how her toes were happy. I love it and I love listening to it - it is so sweet and so innocent until....

Today while with her dad she started rhyming. Now rhyming, as a preschool teacher, is a great exercise. Encourage your little ones to do it. Even rhyming words that do not exist is fine. They are finding sounds and connecting them and that is great. Well Syd can go on a rabbit trail. She just starts talking and rhyming and making no sense at all. Sometimes she will even put them in to a tune, if you can call it that.

Well she began rhyming with the word "truck" - well here it goes and it went on and on and got to words that are not appropriate for a 40 year old much less a 4 year old. The bad part is that when she heard that word and some others she probably thought they sounded so fun and kept saying them. Not so bad when you are in the car - but outside in the parking lot - HMMMMMMM - "Great Teachable Moment" or a "Move On Moment"? I wonder sometimes if that is how these words were made up - a kid rhyming in the parking lot!

Have fun listening to your kids today and let them make you laugh! Who knows you may learn a new word!
