Nothing, but...

Nothing, but…

2nd kings 4:1-7 tells the story of a widow who asked the prophet, Elisha, for help because her husband had died, leaving her an incredible amount of unpaid debt. In her desperation, she told Elisha that the debtors would eventually be coming for her sons if she could not come up with the money her husband owed. (They would have taken her sons to use as slaves to work off the debt.)

I was reading the other morning about Phillip (Acts 8:26 – 40). It is an amazing story of how the Holy Spirit prompted Phillip to go and serve a lost and confused soul. What struck me was how little information Phillip was given from the Lord, and yet he was obedient anyway…. and not just obedient…immediately obedient…I don’t know that I am immediately anything…

Destroyed as to be Devoted

Destroyed, as to be Devoted

The other morning I was reading about the battle at Jericho …Joshua…the big wall …and then it came tumbling down…but I was really interested to learn of a lesser-known character named Achan. He really struck me in this story because of some decisions he made in the midst of this great battle. I realized that there is a little bit of Achan in me…and…based on what happened to him…that is not a good thing…

Ok…so more on Timothy…in my last writing I talked on the sincerity of Timothy’s faith. Paul was also deeply impressed with Timothy’s knowledge of scripture. In 2 Tim 3:14 – 17, it talks about how this knowledge of scripture was the catalyst that equipped Timothy for service.

Kadesh-Barnea

Kadesh-Barnea

Kadesh-Barnea is a little piece land south of Israel on the Sinai Peninsula where the Israelites congregated after the Exodus from Egypt.  It was there that they waited to enter the Promised Land.  And it was there where they had one of their “defining moments” – a choice they had to make.

Signs

Signs

This morning I was reading about Gideon.  In Judges 6:36-40, Gideon was called to be a leader during the Period of the Judges.  Israel was being invaded by the Midianites.  In order to really know that God was going to deliver the Israelits, Gideon placed a fleece of wool on the ground.  He then asked the Lord that there be dew on the fleece, but that the ground would be dry around it.  Before Gideon would commit himself to battle, he wanted to be sure that God was going to give Israel the victory! This sign occurred and Gideon prepared for battle. The fleece was to be the sign that God would definitely rescue Israel from the Midianites. Gideon then went out and defeated the forces of Midian.

Make Your Voids into Wings!

Make your Voids into Wings!

Timothy was from a little colony called Lystra in the province of Galatia (Acts 14:6). Timothy’s father was a gentile and his mother was a Jew. (Acts 16:1,3.) Probably, because of his gentile father, Timothy would not have been considered a “full” Jew and therefore would not have been trained in the rabbi schools like other Jewish boys his age. No doubt, his childhood was anything but normal and might have been a difficult life for a boy growing up is such a mixture of culture, and religion…

Nets

Nets

Matthew 4:18 says, “Now as Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, He saw… Simon, who was called Peter…casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. And He said, Follow Me and I will make you fishers of men.”

Are You In Malta?

Are you in Malta?

The other morning I was reading about Paul’s journey to Rome after his arrest. He was originally planning on going to Spain to share the gospel there (Romans 15:24&28), but once in Jerusalem he was arrested and after many trials eventually was sent to Rome to stand trial before Caesar. This was certainly a distraction to his plans for ministry in Spain...

The Whole Message

“The Whole Message”

I once heard a woman say,” The will of the Lord is my home.” That sounded so poetic and noble. But what does it mean realistically? What does it mean to live that way? To be honest, I have been struggling to experience what she meant ever since I heard that phrase.

Choosing to Praise

Choosing to Praise!

A couple of months ago I was singing a very well known song. The song is called Blessed Be Your Name, by Matt Redman. I know most of you have heard it many times…but I think God’s word whether in the lyrics of a song or the pages of scripture can permeate our hearts differently at different seasons of our lives. I guess that is why it is called the LIVING word of God.
