Are you there?
I have a monitor set up in my 4 year old's room. You are probably going to think I am a weirdo but we have set up a routine for nap time. She is sometimes not wanting to sleep so we call it "rest time". She sits up in her bed with about 4 books and her lovies and can rest if she wants or look at her books. When "rest time" is over I go and get her. Sometimes she falls asleep and sometimes she does not but we talk about how that is time to ourselves.

When will we Know?
I saw a movie recently, The Nativity. I really liked it and from what I can tell, it was pretty accurate. There is a phrase that Mary said in the movie that struck me. It is not in scripture, but you know she was probably thinking it...

Boating? OR Voting?
If you have not read yet, Sydney and I had a little misunderstanding at the poles on Tuesday while I went to vote. She thought we were going "boating" not voting and that caused a little break down. To read more of the story click here.
Well of course that misunderstanding got me to thinking. Sydney wanted to go boating because that was fun and was for her. Voting was just doing something for who knows who?!?

For I know the plans I have for you....
(Christmas is coming soon so I am making this red and green.
This is a verse we hear over and over again. Jeremiah 29:11 - "For I know the plans I have for you", declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

Arise
I was in church yesterday and we were singing a song about the King of Kings taking His place on the thrown. We have sung this song many times and it has not been one of my favorites but only because of the repetition of the same word "arise". Well yesterday as we were singing it - I got the chills. As we sang arise over and over again I was able to picture what I had just read in Daniel.

Not Just A Normal Cup
Not Just A Normal Cup
This week in the Beth Moore Daniel study we find that this King, Belshazzer gets a little prideful. He decides to have a banquet and asks the servants to go and get the cups from the temple that his grandfather Neb had taken years and years ago when the Isrealites were captured.

Pride
How do you know if you are being prideful? I mean I can think of folks who "know everything" as prideful and I certainly do not know everything or think I do - but I know I can be prideful or as Neb says - walk in pride.

Plan B
I am the type that always has a plan B. It keeps me sane. If plan A does not work then we can always do plan B and it will be okay - in my mind anyway.

The cool thing about reading books to kids is that they really believe it is all true. As I am reading about Dinosaurs saying goodnight, I know for sure my little 3 year old is picturing this going on for real. She believes it to be true. As adults, I think we tend to go to the other extreme. We question things truth - which is good - to a degree.

World of "Sugar"
World of "Sugar"
When I was 15 I was diagnosed with Diabetes - Type 1. There are so many things I can tell you about how that experience affected me (and still does) but I will save that for another time. I have a chronic illness and by the grace of God I was given an amazing family and an amazing doctor to help me learn how to deal with it. I was taught to control it and not let it control me. I was in a world of sugar - as every kid is.

I am watching the 9/11 mini series and I just can't get over the fact that this happened. I am in tears watching all of our heads of state having to make decisions and find ways to take care of millions of people. I am in tears seeing folks lose family members both on planes and on the ground.

I am teaching preschool and it is so interesting to be on the playground. The way kids choose to play with one another cracks me up. This age, 4, is so nice though because rarely do you see kids playing with each other because of what they look like. They choose friends that are familiar and that have the same interests as them.

Last night Katie Couric started her reign on the evening news. I have to admit, I had a hard time watching and not thinking it was the Today Show. Any way... it was said on the radio yesterday that she will be making 1,250,000 a MONTH! Can you believe that - that is crazy. I hope she meets expectations!

I love visiting my mom. She is the greatest. I think I love it so much because she takes over with dinners, cleaning and even entertaining my 3 year old while we are at her house. It is such a gift to me when we go there. It is a break from all the "duties" I do around the house and with my family.

Falling in to Faithfulness
I was at a retirement party this weekend for my Young Life leader, as he has decided to retire from Young Life. Many folks were getting up to say things about him and his ministry. It was so nice to hear of all the lives he has touched. Folks talked of his genuineness, his commitment to love others and his faithfulness. Wow...

Being Loved
As I am a preschool teacher, I have been in inservice all week. I have to go everyday and get my room ready for the kids and attend meetings and such. After inservice is over I will only go twice a week to teach. I love doing it and find it fun. I like it too because my daughter can go with me.

Staying Current
I went to Texas Children's Hospital yesterday to get my daughter's arm checked out by a "specialist". Everything is fine. But I noticed as I was in that hospital or service center how amazingly "kid friendly" it was. It was so nice. The colors, the feel and even the waiting room was so fun. The waiting room had computers for the kids to play on, a video room, coloring books, a huge fish tank to look at. This hospital knows their clients.

I have noticed a couple of times now a weird thing that happens to some trees. Now, I do not normally look at trees or even know what is going on with them. They are beautiful and I do love them but that is as far as my attention goes.

Laura and I are taking our families to see Lion King this weekend. We are in the nose bleed section, but I can’t wait. In order to get Sydney ready for it, she and I watched the movie the other night. I love this story on so many different levels. So, humor me . . .

Preparation
My husband and I are both teachers. School is starting right now, or getting close. All teachers of the world are running around organizing their rooms, their supplies, looking at their class lists and their schedules. It really does take a lot to get ready for a room full of kids to come in the first day. My desire as a teacher is that all the “prep” would be done so that I can focus on getting to know the kids and teaching them. Does that EVER happen???? NO WAY!

I have some friends that I introduced and they got married. What a fun story that is – to say you had a successful “setup”. They joke that they met on the internet because I gave them each other’s email addresses and it all happened from there.

Remember these are just thoughts. I am not a pastor or teacher or theologian!
When graduating from college we were all freaked out. We were about to enter in to the world and work and have to pay our own bills and all that “grown up” stuff. We talked about how we were becoming “real people”.

I was watching Fox News this morning (I am a junky) and was amazed that a reporter in Israel had to cover the camera with his hand so that no one could see or get a clear idea of where he is reporting from. They all have on protective vests and gear AND there is even a sound system in the city that, in Hebrew, warns people to take cover when an air raid is coming.

I just recently got a few Disney movies off of Amazon for Sydney. I love the Princess Disney movies specifically. I think it is because a “nobody” meets and falls in love with someone royal. Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Cinderella and Little Mermaid to name a few. Most of the stories are the same – girl meets boy, falls in love, goes through a little trouble, they get together and then all is well in the wonderful kingdom.

Before Lamar and I were married we dated for a while and then we broke up. Probably a common story for a lot of folks. Well, when we decided to start dating again I had to know how things were different. I had to know that he was choosing me. Why?

Today I went walking again. Listening to some music and just walking. Now, remember I am in Colorado visiting my sister. So, everyone is so in shape and healthy. Here I am “walking” when most folks that are “walking” seem to run past me. I was walking on a path and I noticed this really in shape bike rider, probably twice my age, ride past. I then felt the weight of someone coming up on me to pass me.

I am sitting here in Colorado. Man, is it nice. You can’t help but notice the wonders of God. I bet some folks here forget to look, they see it so often. You know, now that I think about it, I wonder if I do the same with what God has given me?

Sydney, my 3 year old daughter, gets frustrated sometimes when she has to repeat things to me because I wasn’t paying attention the first time. She is a really good communicator yet sometimes she will say something and I hear that sweet little voice but it just didn’t register. So, I ask her to repeat it again, still only half way listening, and she does.

Looking Up
Looking Up
My husband often tells me that I put my head down and go. I am a task person. I like to know the expectation and the goal and I just go for it. Today I was walking outside early in the morning – something new I am trying – and I had the sun behind me. In front of me was a really sunny dirt road and my shadow. I found that my eyes focused on my silly body in that shadow. How I was walking, the way my hair looked, and my thighs. UGH.

MY Relationship with God
MY Relationship with God
I have been reading, here and there, some books about Jesus and God and they are all really good. I have also listened to various music that sometimes even brings me to tears. But why does that happen? I think it is because I am figuring out that I can’t define my relationship with God.
