Closet Cleaning and Organizing 101!!!
When getting ready to tackle a closet all at one time - it is important to have a block of time to work on it. Maybe farm the kids out to friends for the morning or use your little one’s nap time (if they are long nappers)
1. Remove everything from the closet – this must be done in order to reorganize effectively. It will make a mess in the room, but it is a must.
2. Give the closet a thorough cleaning…sweep, vacuum, wipe the baseboards etc.
3. Sort and Purge!!!! Comb through and examine each and every item. Consider this – has it been used or worn in the past year…then decide if it is trash, garage sale, donate or keep.
4. Consider your needs for this particular closet…what do you want to use this particular closet for based on its location and function. You may move some things from this closet to another one and stuff form another one to this one.
5. Begin to place your “keep” items back in the closet in an organized fashion…place hooks on the wall for hanging things like bags etc. Make sure what you need to get to is accessible and the stuff you use less often is in the “harder to reach” places.
6. Begin to plan what storage, shelving, containers, hooks, etc you might need in the closet and as your budget allows begin purchasing them.
