Churches
Many
churches offer classes designed to support single
mom’s. Call around your area and check with the
church to see if they offer a single mom’s class.
Here are a couple in the Houston area that have asingle
mom’s ministry. We will update this as we find more.

Northwest Bible –
If you're a single lady, one purpose of the local church is
to offer you protection and direction. (James
1:27) At Northwest Bible Church we offer a Sunday
School Class every week at 9:30 am in Room 121. We
study practical and spiritual topics that minister
particularly to YOUR unique needs and offer support and
encouragement.
Once a quarter the men of our church offer a Car Care Day
to change oil and filters in your cars and refer you to an
honest mechanic (Gene's Automotive) if particular
problems exist plus if you're a regular attendee we
try and meet financial needs in this area and others.
At Christmas members of our Congregation adopt-a-family and
provide gifts or gift cards so you and your children can
celebrate Christmas experiencing some of God' Grace.
(2 Cor 8:14)
God knew in advance every problem you would face and he
offers the solutions in the truths and principles of His
Word. This is the foundation of all we do...equipping
you to be a better mother, employee and future wife by
first falling in love with your Savior and learning of the
Living Word through His Written Word.
We invite you to visit and see if we can be used of the
Lord to encourage you. When visiting the web page of this
church and click on the Special Needs Ministries link.

class is taking a walk through the New Testament and
discovering God's heart.
Foundations
Belmont Foundation-
Equipping the local church to equip single mothers and
children growing up without fathers!
This is a foundation started by the man who wrote "Blue
Like Jazz" Bible Study (grew up fatherless which book "To
Own a Dragon is About") trying to start a national movement
to deal with single mother needs. As far as I can
tell right now, they're just in formation stages
unfortunately...but what a concept.

Focus on the Family
We need capes. Long, bright, red capes with SSM (Super
Single Mom) emblazoned on the back. Underneath, we’ll
wear an ever-so-flattering super suit that trims us down in
all the right places. We’ll be able to leap buildings
in a single bound, kiss multiple cherubic cheeks, do dishes
in two minutes or less and prepare gourmet meals from
potato chips and spaghetti. (Click the link above to read

Life Challenges
Birds chirped outside the window in the branches of the
flowering locust tree. Spring hung in the air but not in my
heart. I sat in the second row of the classroom watching my
oldest daughter, 5-year-old Ashley, file into the room with
the other students dressed for their preschool graduation.

Focus on Your Child
It's been said that most women receive esteem and
affirmation from relationships, particularly with their
families. No wonder, then, that depression, over-dependence
on children, and desire to remarry quickly are pitfalls
some single moms face. Custodial mothers in particular
should be keenly aware of their own feelings of grief,
fatigue, guilt and loneliness, and courageously seek the
help of friends or professionals when needed. While they'll
likely need to perform some functions once handled by a
husband, mothers should also seek male role models for
their children, employing prayer and careful discernment. A
key point single parents should remember is that remarriage
won't solve everything. God alone--not another
person--supplies completeness. (Click on the link above to

Some
Extra Tips:
*
Make sure you get a tax form from your child care. You get
a tax deduction!
* Child Care: ask about sliding-scale payments, employer
assistance, or church programs.
* Accepting Help: realize that allowing others to help is a
gift to them and you can pay them back with small favors
later.
* Fathers: Keep communication open with a supportive
father, try to stay positive, know your legal rights with
an non-supportive father, and pray for your kids' father.
* Your Heart: stay involved in a church (see above),
develop friendships with other single moms, take time to
care for your spiritual needs. It is the best gift you can
give your kids.
