SCRIPTURE MEMORY

I have been convicted for a while now that I do not do enough, or any for that matter, scripture memory. I have failed to make a legitimate effort to place God's word in my head. I do remember things and about where they are but have never practiced the discipline of memorizing scripture.

So, I decided not only am I going to try and memorize a bit of scripture, I am going to get my daughter to memorize it too.

After asking around I was directed to this website called
Parent Handbook for Scripture Memory. It gives a great list of verses for kids to memorize and what ages to do them. So Sydney and I are starting on a verse a month (I don't want to get discouraged - we will put a new one in every month). We took one verse and put it in a cheap photo book. We titled it Sydney's Memory Verses and we keep it in the car. So as we are driving around we can casually pull out our memory book and try to memorzie them together.

We are starting with Phil. 4:13.

I believe that we will not know these verses at the drop of a hat for the rest of our lives but I do believe that when we take the time to learn them, God will bring them to mind when we need them. Even for a five year old who said, "mom I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me so I am going to keep trying to whistle." Oh to be five....

Lets get to whistling Syd!

Give it a try!
