Do NOT BE AFRAID! You can host a New Year's Party. It is so easy and so worth it. You can put your kids to bed at your own house and then enjoy the party. Here are some ideas and tips!
1. Send out an evite (go to evite.com) Send it to your close friends and then the invitation is out - no need to make it all fancy - just send out an evite!
2. Ask your friends to bring a heavy appetizer and drinks. We have done this for many parties. People do not mind and it provides variety and eases the cost for the host. You can even ask some to bring something sweet too. I have a friend that is having a New Year's party and she just added that on the evite - "please bring some food and some drinks to place in a community drink tin!"
3. Set out some games: like cards, taboo, apples to apple - to name a few.
4. Turn on the TV, some music and then let the party take care of itself.
5. Some fun extra things to have for the evening if you find it gets boring (or you want to have some back up just in case):
* You can play 2 truths and a lie - each person puts in a box 2 truths and a lie and you try to figure out which one is the lie.
* Some folks have brought their favorite appetizer of the New Year.
* Share a favorite movie of the year.
* Get some sparklers and let the kids play around with those.
* Play pictionary but have some premade pieces of paper with folks or ideas or themes from the past year.
It will be fun and it will be a great way to start off the New Year!
